LEGAL TERMS

The Grid Rulebook.

The terms of use for the CascadeLights relay. Free use only, adults only, no real money, no prizes, governed by Ontario law. The page is the long version of what we have already promised on the homepage.

These terms apply to every visit to CascadeLights. By opening the relay you accept the standard described below. The terms are written in plain English and are deliberately specific. If anything is unclear or appears to contradict the homepage, write to [email protected] and we will rewrite the section to be clearer.

1. FREE USE ONLY — NO REAL MONEY

CascadeLights is a free social pixel grid. The relay does not accept payments in any form — no cards on file, no premium tier, no token shop, no subscription, no in-page purchase, no donation. The visual format of the three-by-three grid resembles real-money formats, but no real money is involved on this page or anywhere across the relay. The score panel is editorial furniture; it does not exchange for cash, prizes, gift cards, branded merchandise, charitable donation credits, or anything else of real-world value.

2. AGE RESTRICTION

The relay is published exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. The age gate is a real boundary, not a checkbox to tap past. By confirming the age gate you affirm that you are of legal age in your jurisdiction. If you are under 18, please close the tab and return when you are older. We hold the same line on every page; no exceptions are written into the relay.

3. THIS IS NOT A REGULATED GAMBLING SERVICE

CascadeLights is not a regulated gambling service in Canada or anywhere else. Under Ontario's Gaming Control Act and related provincial legislation, services that offer the chance to win something of value in exchange for consideration are regulated; CascadeLights offers no such chance because no value moves through the relay in either direction. The relay is closer in spirit to a sketch on a back page of a magazine than to a real-money product.

4. ACCEPTABLE USE

The relay is intended to be opened, read, tapped a few times, and closed. The following are not acceptable:

5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The CascadeLights name, the logo, the cabinet design, the glyph set, the relay-engine code, and the body copy across the site are the property of the studio. The regulator logos shown in the footer (Gamblers Anonymous, the Responsible Gambling Council of Canada, Gordon Moody) are the property of those organisations and are used here under an honourable-mention pattern: linked to the genuine websites of each organisation, with full credit. Photographs on the site are licensed from a stock provider under terms that allow editorial use; the studio does not claim ownership of those photographs.

6. LIABILITY DISCLAIMERS

The relay is provided “as is” for the visitor's entertainment. The studio makes no warranty as to fitness for any particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the studio is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from a visit to the relay. The relay is a side project; we run it carefully, but we are not in a position to absorb large legal claims. If a clause of this section is unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the remaining clauses still apply.

7. PRIVACY AND COOKIES

Privacy and cookies are addressed in their own pages: Voltage Privacy covers what data the relay handles; Relay Cookies covers the two cookies / localStorage entries the relay uses. Both pages form part of these terms by reference.

8. RESPONSIBLE USE

The Power Down page is a substantive resource on stepping away from the relay if it stops feeling like a quiet break. The page lists the support organisations we trust, with a one-line description of each, plus a self-check and a list of warning signs. The page forms part of these terms by reference.

9. GOVERNING LAW AND VENUE

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply in that province. Any dispute arising from a visit to the relay will be heard in the courts of the City of Toronto, Ontario. If you are visiting from outside Canada, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence still apply where they are in your favour.

10. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

If the terms change in any way that materially affects what is allowed on the relay or what the studio commits to, we will update the “last updated” line at the bottom of this page and re-prompt the cookie banner so you can review the new terms before they apply to your next visit. Cosmetic changes (typo fixes, grammar tidies) do not require a re-prompt; substantive changes always do.

11. CONTACT

If anything in these terms is unclear, write to [email protected]. The inbox is read by Ana from the studio, usually within a working day. Postal mail can go to 187 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5H 1J9, Canada.
